<h3 style="text-align:justify;"><span class="tm7">The founder of whisky, <strong>NIKKA FROM BARREL</strong> (Masataka Taketsuru,) travelled to Scotland in 1918 to learn the process of distillation of Scotch whisky firsthand. He studied organic chemistry with Prof TS Patterson at the University of Glasgow and production of malt whisky at hazelburn distillery in Campbeltown near Mull of Kintyre. He married Jessie Roberta "Rita" Cowan, daughter of a doctor from Glasgow, and returned with her to Japan in 1920. In 1923 he joined Kotobukiya (now Suntory) and helped establish a distillery before starting Nikka in 1934. </span> <span class="tm7">After their death, the company was run by his adopted son,</span> <span class="tm7"> Masataka Taketsuru, who substantially expanded his business.</span></h3>
